In Courtice, Ontario, a 192-bed long-term care home is going up. Halal meals. Prayer and wudu space. Staff who speak the languages our elders grew up with. It opens in 2027. On Saturday, October 24, we are gathering to finish it at our Annual Dinner. Why this home exists Ontario's long-term care waitlists run into the tens of thousands, and the province's senior population is on track to nearly double. For a Muslim family, the shortage is only half the problem. The other half is what waits at the end of the list: a room where the food is off the menu, where there is nowhere to pray, and where nobody speaks the language your mother has spoken her whole life. Most families would rather carry the weight themselves than send a parent there. Many do, for years, until they cannot. What we are building 192 beds. 150,000 square feet. A project of over $100 million. Construction began in 2024, the Ontario Minister of Long-Term Care stood with us at the groundbreaking in April 2025, and the doors open in 2027. Phase Two is already in planning: affordable housing, built for seniors, on the same grounds. The evening Keynote: Imam Ibrahim Hindy, on caring for the vulnerable, the elderly, and one's own parents. The appeal : Mufti Yusuf Badat, for the third year running. Also: dinner, the plans for the build, and the people running it.
