Thankyou to everyone who came to dance with us at our end of summer party at Downcast Studios in Gateshead. We loved it. We hope you did, too. We return to our beloved home at the Lubberfiend for our November show with our good friend Jubei, one the most the most important figures in modern Drum and Bass. We’re giving him 2 hours and total creative freedom, so you can expect variety, quality and exclusive, yet to be released music from the cutting edge of the breaks and bass world. Carbon may not be as old as some labels, but has already established itself as one of the few “buy on sight” imprints that still exists. Their reputation for quality control and high standards is renowned. Like Jubei’s meticulous selections during his DJ sets, all of the releases on Carbon are subject to rigorous scrutiny before they make the grade. Always dancefloor friendly, but never cheesy. Deep, sometimes dark, rolling and moody, but always unique enough to stand out and stick in your head. Known as “a DJ’s DJ” in Drum and Bass circles, Jubei’s no nonsense approach to mixing sets him apart from many other performers in the scene, his deadly accuracy, ear for quality, and his ability respond to crowds speaks for itself. One of the most difficult things an artist can do is make something as complex and nuanced as Drum and Bass sound perfectly presented. Though many people try to emulate his flawless mixing style, no one really can. Don’t miss this special extended set at what’s set to be one of the best events we’ve done to date. Label-mate, accomplished producer and local legend Tyrone will also be performing an extended set. When you have two DJs this good on your lineup, it only makes sense to put them to work and make the absolute best of it. Though our residents will be providing a warmup set, we’re handing most of the night over to the capable hands of Carbon Music. Tyrone will be taking you through the many flavours of contemporary DnB, with a few Curves classics thrown in for good measure. You can expect his signature sound, characterised by his encyclopaedic knowledge of the scene, and his devastatingly powerful, high impact mixing. Curves have always done our own thing. Though we have a very specific music policy and value quality control over everything else. To us, labels like Carbon and DJs like Tyrone and Jubei are a safe and trustworthy pair of hands. Tickets are an unbelievably cheap eight pounds in advance. As always, we have tried to do this event as cheaply as possible for you, without rendering it impossible to actually put on. The mighty Lubberfiend sound system is primed and ready to rattle your ribs and the bar will be well stocked with the best in booze and non-booze from local and international breweries. Arguably the best underground and alternative club in the North, our beloved home on Blandford Street is looking forward to welcoming us all again. Curves is for everyone who loves Drum and Bass, Jungle, Beats & Breaks that are a little different. We’re proud to welcome all genders, all ages, and people from all backgrounds, even if they’ve never been to a rave before.
