Hot Dogs & Hot Takes on History Event Date: Thursday, Sept. 17Event Time: 7-8:30 pm | Doors open 6:30 pmCost: $15 (+ fees)Ages: 13+Register by: Aug. 24 What does Alberta separatism look like when we stop looking at Alberta only through a colonial lens? At this installment of Hot Dogs & Hot Takes on History, Ryan Crosschild invites us to explore the Blackfoot understandings of territory, boundaries, and belonging as questions about the province’s future intensify. Rather than beginning with Alberta or with the narratives about separation dominating public debate, this talk speaks from and for Blackfoot territory. Dive into deeper conversations about Treaty 7, settler relationships to Blackfoot territory, and contemporary questions about overlapping Indigenous claims to place, to help understand what is at stake when talking about borders and separation. What changes when Indigenous histories, relationships, and ways of knowing and being are centred in a conversation about our past, present, and future? Come for the hot dogs, stay for a conversation that asks whether we're even asking the right questions about where Alberta begins, where it ends, and who gets to decide. Every month, a historian or specialized expert will share their research and offer new perspectives on the history we think we know. Every Hot Dogs & Hot Takes event kicks off with a short presentation on a historical topic by the guest speaker, followed by an interview facilitated by The Confluence President Jennifer Thompson, and an open discussion where you can offer your knowledge and questions about the evening’s topic. What’s a hot take without a hot snack to go with it? Fuel the evening with a delicious hot dog and sea salt chips for $5. Thank you to Harvest Meats for sponsoring the hot dogs for this event!
