Voices of Sea and Sky Friday, October 16, 7:30 pm Sanders Beach Corinne Jones Resource Center Celebrate America's 250 by honoring Pensacola's lasting naval presence. We sing storied sea chanteys, rousing military anthems, and prayers for safety, along with familiar favorites Beyond the Sea, Leavin' on a Jet Plane, and Eternal Father, Strong to Save. The Sanders Beach-Corinne Jones Resource Center is situated on the water with a 270-degree view of Pensacola Bay. El Mesías Friday, December 4, 7:30 pm Saturday, December 5, noon The Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Continue the celebration of America's 250 in a unique way. Of course we're presenting Handel's Messiah, the piece that gave us our start in 1935. But we remind audiences that during much of the Revolutionary War, Pensacola was under Spanish rule. Spain assisted the Patriots in efforts against the British, affecting the outcome. We combine these two origin stories by singing El Mesías, a new translation in Spanish. Come hear Handel's familiar oratorio in a new way. Alzheimer's Stories Friday, March 19, 7:30 pm Saturday, March 20, 1:00 pm UWF Center for Fine & Performing Arts Robert S. Cohen's Alzheimer's Stories is a large work that was created alongside chorus members with relatives who've had the dreaded disease. It has a deeply personal flavor while examining the arc of the experience: from consciousness to unconsciousness. We are joined by members of the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra, baritone and mezzo-soprano soloists, and a customized lighting design. Mass in Blue Saturday, May 15, 7:30 pm First United Methodist Church Guest conductor: Dr. Alicia Walker A collision of two musical genres: sacred music and jazz. Will Todd's Mass in Blue is the Latin mass text set to swing, blues, and driving grooves. We are joined by a local jazz quartet Dharma Beats, soprano soloist, and guest conductor Dr. Alicia Walker (USC). Additional works feature the wonderful organ.
