TENDER LOVING CARE

Written and directed by Mike Leigh (Secrets & Lies, Hard Truths), Tender Loving Care is a warm and deeply humane portrait of family, friendship, and the people who look after others. Amy (Kate O'Flynn) is a social worker supporting young people in foster care. Having just split up with her long-term boyfriend, who has gone back to his wife and young son, she moves back in with her best friend, Rosie (Alice Bailey Johnson), who works in social care for the elderly. Amy regularly visits her loving retired parents, Birdie (Marion Bailey) and Geoff (Paul Jesson). But when Geoff begins suffering spasmodic lapses, a doctor warns that they may be early signs of dementia, and the family draws closer. Featuring the vivid, authentic performances Leigh is known for, the film is a moving reminder of the importance of simple acts of kindness and of caring for one another.
