Shrek is a green ogre living alone in a swamp who values his privacy. His life is disrupted when Lord Farquaad banishes various fairy-tale creatures to Shrek's swamp. To get his home back, Shrek makes a deal with Farquaad to rescue Princess Fiona from a tower guarded by a dragon. Accompanied by a talkative Donkey, Shrek completes the quest, but discovers that Fiona harbors a secret about her identity.
