Building Airtightness Workshop

The Township of Langley and City of Maple Ridge are hosting a free in-person education workshop, focused on the design and construction of high-performance building envelopes for Part 9 homes.
This one-day, builder-focused workshop focuses on hands-on learning using wall mock-ups, where you will construct and detail the envelope to ensure the air barrier is continuous at critical transitions, plan for and address penetrations, and learn many other techniques that will make airtightness issues a thing of the past.
Workshop Objectives:

Understand key enclosure barriers: Distinguish between the air barrier, vapour barrier, and weather-resistant barrier, including what each system does, where it is typically located in a wall assembly, and how the layers work together.
Build confidence in airtightness detailing: Identify common air-leakage locations and understand how to maintain a continuous exterior air barrier through critical details, including wall-to-ceiling and top-plate transitions.
Apply practical solutions on realistic mock-ups: Use redline drawings and hands-on mock-up activities to identify discontinuities, communicate constructible details, and practice effective air-barrier continuity strategies.

Who should attend: Primarily builders, framers, and anyone else who constructs the building envelope. In addition, building officials, architects, designers, energy advisors are welcome.
