Inspired by humanity's timeless desire to look beyond, ASCENSION is an immersive meditation on light, space and wonder. Celestial projections flow across the church's gothic arches, opening portals to imagined worlds where clouds, stars, radiant energy and infinite skies converge.Planned as a sensory, meditative experience, visitors are invited to take a seat and soak in the interplay of lights and colours. The scale of the space, the iconic architecture and the beautiful stained glass serve as inspiration as well as the grand canvas. Painstakingly restored to its original glory, Afghan Church counts as a stunning example of Mumbai’s rich and diverse architectural heritage. With this intervention, our goal is to make more people discover - and rediscover - this iconic landmark and appreciate its scale, beauty and grace.Through the Mumbai Light Festival initiative, we at Floating Canvas Company have extensively worked on portraying the city’s architectural heritage in a whole new light. What makes this intervention special is that it is the first time we are creating an immersive projection mapping experience inside a Grade 1 heritage structure. We hope this opens the door to more such initiatives and a chance to restore and celebrate our heritage in a richer, more engaging way.
