This Halloween, AVMN takes you somewhere dark.Set in Cape Town in the year 2050, STREET TRASH imagines a future shaped by extreme economic inequality, where the middle class has disappeared and society has been divided between the ultra-rich and those left to survive on the streets.When Ronald and a fellow homeless friend uncover a government plot to “liquidate” the homeless population using a mysterious drug known as V, they find themselves caught in a brutal struggle for survival.
Directed by Ryan Kruger, STREET TRASH is a visceral, irreverent and unapologetically South African take on dystopian horror. The film brings together social commentary, dark humour, violence and the grotesque to create a world that is both outrageous and unsettlingly familiar.For this special Halloween edition, AVMN invites audiences to experience STREET TRASH not simply as a horror film, but as a conversation about inequality, power, survival and the kinds of futures we imagine when society begins to fracture.
At the centre of the evening will be director Ryan Kruger, who will join us in person for a special post-screening Q&A. The conversation will explore the making of STREET TRASH, the creation of its dystopian Cape Town, the film's themes and the journey of bringing such an uncompromising vision to the screen.
