Meet the Maestro: Pandit Dr. Prakash Chitnis (Sangeetacharya)
Experience the magic of a legendary harmonium and organ maestro with over 45 years of stage brilliance. Celebrated for his unique ‘Gayaki Ang’ (vocal style), Dr. Chitnis plays with such breathtaking expression that critics often say “his harmonium doesn’t just play—it sings!”
Immense Diversity in Solo Playing: The vast variety in his solo recitals stands on his rock-solid foundation in classical ragas (Ragadari- Guru Sangeet Teerth Vinayakbuva Kale). This classical depth is layered with his absolute mastery over semi-classical forms like Natyasangeet (musical theatre), Thumri and Soulful Bhajans (Guru – Pt. Govindrao Patwardhan), alongside highly specialized instrumental techniques like Sitar-style Todes and Jhala. (Guru – Pt. Vishwanathbuva Pendharkar)
Elite Accompanist: Beyond his solo brilliance, he is equally proficient as an accompanying artist. Has accompanied legendary stalwarts like Bharat Ratna Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, Pt. Firoze Dastur, Pt. Yashwantbua Joshi, and Vidushi Dr. Prabha Atre.
First artist to present a Hindustani-style solo harmonium recital in Kerala. He has been conferred the prestigious title of “Pandit” by the State of Kerala.
ICCR Empanelment: He has been selected and empanelled as an official artist for the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).
Thane Navratna Award: He was honoured with the esteemed Thane Navratna Award in 2017 for his exemplary contributions to the field of music.
Sangeetacharya (Doctorate in Music) in 2025: He was awarded the prestigious Sangeetacharya degree (the highest doctoral-level qualification in music) by the Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya in 2025.
