My Japan Story SLAM! is CELEBRATING 1-YEAR TOGETHER , IN STORIES . And we have a BIG SURPRISE for our sotrytelling community...A visiting VIP, award-winning, guest storyteller, Kona Morris is on the billing! Every show over the past year has SOLD OUT! The average audience rating for this event is ★★★★☆ 4.7 STARS! Events include about 6-8 storytellers telling 5-6 minute, true stories–live--no slides, no phones, no props, no notes! Just their own personal stories from the heart. This events story theme is : TRICK or TREAT: Spooky, bite-sized stories of fears, pranks, and wicked indulgence. CONTENT WARNING : Live storytelling may contain adult language, themes and sensitive topics not suitable for children or some listeners. Past storytellers have covered topics such as death, grief, depression, self-harm, and abuse. Feel free to step outside or ask the host, before the event starts, which themes might occur in which stories. There are also stories of joy, hope, and the delightful surprises of life on Earth. We're creating a space where LIVE stories build authentic connection and a sense of community —something we all need more of in this tiny screen-focused world. We do not publish events online or broadcast events live...This is simply a ' be there or be square' event. It’s also a fun night out , offering both the audience and speakers a chance to laugh, cry, reflect and release some stress. And we learn a bit more about each other, even the people we think we already know —while also improving our storytelling and story-listening skills. Each event also gives back! ~ 20% of the net ticket sales will support charities helping children, single parents and those needing support in Japan (see the main event poster (online or on-site) for specific charity supported by each show). That’s the heart of My Japan Story SLAM! Warm, welcoming and all about connection and community--with a purpose. FAQ's (Frequently Asked Questions) Q. When should I arrive? A. From 6:00 PM, there will be a social hour to enjoy Nakameguro Taproom’s delicious New Haven-style Pizza, salad or other delicious food —A great time to use your included ticket for either discounted food (¥800 off) OR 1 free beverage (incl. Baird Beer) and choose a good seat to relax and mingle before the show starts at 7:00 PM sharp. Q. What's included in the ticket price? A. 1 beverage of choice or ¥800 off any food item priced more than ¥800. Also, ~20% of net ticket sales is used to support a local Japan charity helping children, single parents and people struggling to get by in Japan. Q. Which charity will be supported from this event? A. Thanks to our friends at KiFor, this events charity of choice is ME Amami--They connect children in the Amami Islands with inspiring “senpai” role models, so they can discover themselves, expand what feels possible, and take a positive next step. Q. What language will this event be held in? A. This event will be held in English. Future goals include finding a partner to hold some story SLAMS in Japanese as well; talk to us about that if you think you might be able help with that. Q. Why a story SLAM? A. It's simple. People love stories. Humans evolved in part because of stories. Storytelling skills are important for work, homelife, social settings and education. Storytelling also improves our communication skills, empathy, understanding and memory recall. Q. Will there be story polling at the end? A. Story SLAM's commonly include a simple, fun and engaging way to identify the top 3 most resonate stories. This helps the storytellers understand their 'storytelling resonation impact' and it helps story listeners learn why certain stories might have resonated with them more than another one, in THIS context, on THAT night . There are really no winners or losers—just some great stories! NOTE : We may not have story polling at some events and instead have a brief Q&A / Comment session with the storytellers. Q. I am having trouble finding the venue, can you give me more information? A. 〒153-0051 Tokyo, Meguro City, Kamimeguro, 2 Chome−1−3 中目黒GTプラザ C棟 2階 (From Nakameguro Station, East Exit 2 – You’ll see Kaldi and Seven-Eleven on the first floor--It's directly above them on the 2nd floor!) It looks like this from outside the station at night. Q. What if I suddenly cannot attend? A. No worries. You can substitute a friend or family member for your ticket--just let us know so we can check them in. Q. What happens if the event is cancelled? A. In the event of an unexpected cancellation of the event by the organizers—all tickets will be refunded. We hope that you will join us LIVE for a fun evening in Tokyo! The storyteller lineup includes some amazing people from around the world! See lineup poster below.
