A HERITAGE OPEN DAYS EVENT presented byTavistock Local History Society and led by Stephen Docksey - Discover one of Tavistock's best-kept secrets on this gentle, predominantly flat guided walk exploring the five wharves at the head of the Tavistock Canal. Today they lie largely hidden from view, but during the nineteenth century these bustling quays were the commercial heart of the town, where copper, tin, arsenic, limestone, timber, coal and everyday goods were loaded for their journey to Morwellham Quay and beyond. Join your guide, Stephen Docksey, to uncover the remarkable story of the canal, the industries it served and the people whose working lives kept Tavistock connected to the wider world.
