ROBB JOHNSON / MISERABLE LES

Back in March 2012, ROBB JOHNSON was only the second performer ever to appear at Toft House. We have him to thank for the encouragement and help he offered at the time, without which we might not have carried on and still been going in 2027. Robb not only played gig number 2, he also played our special, celebratory, gig number 200, in September 2025, and one or two others in between. Make no mistake, Robb Johnson is the UK’s best and most genuine political songwriter and mixes political satire with a human warmth and wit. He is incredibly prolific and has released over 50 albums since 1985. “Love songs as touching as the political material is sharp” – fRoots “There is no songwriter to compare with Robb Johnson operating in the UK ” – R2 Magazine “An English original” – Robert Denselow, The Guardian “One of our best singer-songwriters ever” – Mike Harding MISERABLE LES is a singer/songwriter who is sometimes described as “The Ultimate Pessimist”. He hates this, describing himself as “Experienced Optimist”. Take it from me, Miserable Les writes some very engaging songs and has a wry sense of humour. Not so long ago, he opened for SHRUG and went down very well indeed. He also does loads of work to support local foodbanks, including supporting our “We Shall Overcome” gigs and donating the proceeds from his CD sales. Please come along and try to cheer him up!
