¡Dear London familia!
With dedication, humility, and cariño, a rotating group of music lovers have been meeting in a little room in East London for the last few weeks. Luckily the neighbors don’t seem to mind. We’re planting seeds for a new musical process, learning and celebrating marimba music from the Pacific Coast of Colombia and Ecuador — always in humility and solidarity with the Afro-Indigenous communities who created, preserve, and continue to reimagine this tradition that we love so much.
We are coming out to the streets of London for the first time on Tuesday Nov 17 at Folklore Hoxton. We’re building community around our marimba de chonta, and raising money for Afro-Colombian families affected by the earthquake in the Punta del Este neighborhood of Buenaventura.
Come! Bring your voice, your dancing shoes, and your handkerchief (if you’re old school like that).
We’re also featuring that salsa that you love - and that you didn’t yet know that you love - from @moralitofunky’s deep crates.
Tickets: £8.00 - £20.00
Further donations are very welcome.
No-one turned away for lack of funds.
If you’re not able to come, we very much welcome your donation, which will go directly to very dear and trusted community organizers in Buenaventura.
