「Expedition School」― 建築と研究の対話 日本とフィンランドの小学校建築を比較するシンポジウム 「Expedition School」プロジェクトの成果と近年の学校建築デザイン 本シンポジウムでは、フィンランドと日本、それぞれの視点から、小学校の建築が学びやウェルビーイング、子どもたちの主体的な関わりにどのような影響を与えるのかを考えます。 日本とフィンランドの児童・生徒および教員の学習環境に対する経験を調査する「Expedition School 」プロジェクトの研究成果を紹介するとともに、近年の学校建築・デザイン・プロジェクトから得られた知見を共有します。 フレイヤ・ストールベリ=アールト(Freja Ståhlberg-Aalto)博士とシルヤ・マルティカイネン(Silja Martikainen)博士は、新しい学校建築における空間の捉え方や、学校環境が児童・生徒および教職員のウェルビーイング、学校への関わり、学習にどのような影響を及ぼすのかについて発表します。 さらに、JKMM Architectsの創業パートナーである建築家サムリ・ミエッティネン(Samuli Miettinen)氏と、シーラカンスアンドアソシエイツのパートナーである赤松佳珠子教授が、フィンランドと日本における学校建築の現在の動向や設計アプローチについて紹介し、研究の視点を実際の建築・デザインの現場から補完します。 日時 : 2026年10月20日(火)18:00–21:00 (JST) / 12:00-15:00 (Finnish time) 対面会場: 東京ミッドタウン・デザインハブ オンライン会場 :Zoom(登録時にリンク提供) 主催 : フィンランドセンター/「Expedition School」プロジェクトチーム テーマ : 学校建築と研究をめぐる対話 ― 「Expedition School」プロジェクトとフィンランド・日本の近年の学校建築から フレイヤ・ストールベリ=アールト(Freja Ståhlberg-Aalto) 博士は、JKMM Architectsの建築家・研究者であり、2004年より同事務所で活動し、アモス・レックスやフィンランド国立博物館をはじめとする、数々の受賞歴のあるプロジェクトに携わってきました。研究では特に学習環境と医療・ケア環境に焦点を当てており、博士論文では、日本とヨーロッパのケア環境における美学と建築について、利用者や関係者の視点から考察しました。これまでにアールト大学および日本の大学で建築の研究・教育に携わり、現在は東京理科大学と共同で、日本において博士研究員として研究を行っています。 シルヤ・マルティカイネン(Silja Martikainen) 博士は、ヘルシンキ大学教育科学部の主任研究員で、発達・教育心理学のドーセント(大学教員資格)を有しています。研究分野は、子どもや青少年の子どもや若者の社会性・情動の発達で、現在はさまざまな心理社会的介入が子どもや若者に与える影響について研究しています。CreduおよびExpedition Schoolプロジェクトでは、学際的なチームの一員として、子どもたちや教職員が物理的な学習空間をどのように体験しているのか、また、そうした空間が学びやウェルビーイングにどのような役割を果たしているのかを調査するための手法の開発に携わっています。 建築家サムリ・ミエッティネン(Samuli Miettinen) 氏は、フィンランドを代表する建築設計事務所の一つであるJKMM Architectsの創業パートナー兼主任設計者です。これまで、国際的にも高く評価されている数々のプロジェクトの設計を主導しており、なかでもタンペレのタメラ・スタジアムは、2024年フィンランディア建築賞を受賞しました。2025年に国際コンペティションでJKMMが最優秀案に選出されたことを受け、現在はヘルシンキに建設されるフィンランド新建築・デザイン博物館のプリンシパルデザイナーを務めています。建築と都市の暮らし、文化、人々のウェルビーイングとの関係性を探求する設計に取り組んでいます。 赤松佳珠子 氏は、株式会社 シーラカンス アンド アソシエイツのパートナー、法政大学 デザイン工学部建築学科 教授を務めています。1990年に日本女子大学家政学部住居学科卒業後、同年シーラカンスに加わり、2002年よりパートナーに就任しました。2016年より法政大学教授を務めています。主な作品に、宇土小学校、流山おおたかの森小・中学校、渋谷ストリーム、山元町役場、HABUコミュニティ・ラーニング・センター、福島県農業短期大学校(アグリカレッジ福島)などがあります。主な受賞歴として、日本建築学会賞(作品)および第26回村野藤吾賞があります。 プログラム PART 1 学習環境に関する最新の研究 18:00–18:05 開会挨拶 フィンランドセンター 18:05–18:35 フレイヤ・ストールベリ=アールト 博士 「日本とフィンランドにおける児童・生徒および教員の学習環境に対する経験 ― インタラクティブ・プロジェクトExpedition Schoolとフィンランドにおけるパイロットプロジェクトから得られた知見」 18:35–19:05 シルヤ・マルティカイネン 博士 「日本とフィンランドにおける児童・生徒および学校関係者のウェルビーイング、エンゲージメント、学習 ― インタラクティブ・プロジェクトExpedition SchoolとCREDUパイロットプロジェクトから得られた知見」 19:05–19:20 コーヒー休憩 PART 2 日本とフィンランドの学校建築におけるデザイン・コンセプトと実践 19:20–19:50 建築家 サムリ・ミエッティネン 「フィンランドの学校建築の最新動向 ― ポリ総合学校・文化センターの事例」 19:50–20:20 赤松佳珠子 教授 C+A Coelacanth and Associates パートナー/法政大学教授 「日本の学校建築の近年の動向 ― シーラカンス アンド アソシエイツによる学校プロジェクトの事例」 20:20–20:50 懇親会 __ ‘Expedition School’ – Architecture & Research Dialogue Symposium Comparing Japanese and Finnish Elementary School Architecture Findings from the ‘Expedition School’ project and recent Contemporary School Designs This symposium brings together perspectives from Finland and Japan to explore how elementary school architecture shapes learning, wellbeing and engagement. It presents findings from the Expedition School project, which examines students’ and teachers’ experiences of learning environments in both countries, alongside insights from recent school design projects. Dr. Freja Ståhlberg-Aalto and Dr. Silja Martikainen will discuss spatial conceptions in new school buildings and how school environments influence the wellbeing, engagement and learning of students and staff. Architect Samuli Miettinen, founding partner of JKMM Architects and Ms. Kazuko Akamatsu, Partner C+A Coelacanth and Associates and a professor at Hosei University will complement these research perspectives with insights into current developments and approaches in Finnish and Japanese school architecture. Dr. Freja Ståhlberg-Aalto is an architect and researcher at JKMM Architects, where she has worked since 2004 on several award-winning projects, including Amos Rex art museum and the National Museum of Finland. Her research focuses particularly on learning and healthcare environments, and her doctoral dissertation examined the aesthetics and architecture of care environments in Japan and Europe from the perspective of users and stakeholders. She has conducted research and taught architecture at Aalto University and universities in Japan, and is currently conducting postdoctoral research in Japan in collaboration with the Tokyo University of Science. Dr. Silja Martikainen is a senior researcher at the Faculty of Educational Sciences, University of Helsinki, Finland. She has a title of docent in Developmental and Educational Psychology. Her research focuses on social-emotional development among children and youth, with current projects examining the impact of various psychosocial interventions. In the Credu and Expedition School projects she has collaborated with a multidisciplinary team in developing methods to investigate children's and personnel's experiences of physical learning spaces and their role in learning and well-being. Architect Samuli Miettinen is a founding partner and principal designer at JKMM Architects, one of Finland’s leading architecture practices. He has led the design of several internationally recognised projects, including the award-winning Tammela Stadium in Tampere, which received the 2024 Finlandia Prize for Architecture. Miettinen is currently the principal designer of Finland’s new Museum of Architecture and Design in Helsinki, following JKMM’s winning entry in the international competition in 2025. His work explores the relationship between architecture, urban life, culture and human wellbeing. Ms. Kazuko Akamatsu is a partner at C+A Coelacanth and Associates and a professor at Hosei University. She graduated from the Department of Housing Architecture at Japan Women's University in 1990 and joined Coelacanth, becoming a partner in 2002. She has served as a professor at Hosei University since 2016. Her major works include Uto Elementary School, Nagareyama Otakanomori Elementary and Junior High School, Shibuya Stream*, Yamamoto Town Office, HABU Community Learning Center, and Fukushima Agricultural College (Agri College Fukushima). Her major awards include the Architectural Institute of Japan (AIJ) Prize for architectural design and the 26th Murano Togo Prize.
