When 11-year-old Ferdinand hits Bruno with a stick, their parents—the upscale, liberal Vallons and the pragmatic, high-powered Houlliés—meet to settle the dispute with maturity and class. But "civilization" is a fragile thing. As the afternoon progresses, the veneer of etiquette cracks. Alliances shift and shatter—couples turn on each other, men turn on women, and eventually, it’s every adult for themselves.
