SANCTUM OF SOUND IS A MUSICAL FORUM FOR LISTENERS OF AMBIENT, DEVOTIONAL, ELECTRONIC, EXPERIMENTAL AND PSYCHEDELIC MUSIC. Curated and produced by the MaHalla team, Sanctum of Sound takes place on the first Sunday of every month, transforming MaHalla into a sanctuary of music and sound for 8 immersive hours. Dedicated to the art of creation and transmission, it offers a space for deep listening and sonic exploration. The next edition unfolds on Sunday, October 4th, from 2 PM to 10 PM, featuring performances by Stegonaute, Music Ashram, Yula, Lorenzo Mena, and Toxido Mask. _________________________________________ 2PM: Yula Yula (Yael Lavie) is a Berlin-based composer, qanun player rooted in Middle Eastern musical traditions and contemporary sound. She studied at the Jerusalem Academy of Music in the Arab Music Department, and alongside her studies learned Andalusian music with master Nino Bitton. She conducts deep listening experiences where the ancient music of the kanun meets delicate electronics, inviting audiences to pause, breathe and journey inwards. A rare qanun player, her unique compositions combine maqam traditions, ambient, experimental, jazz and electronic music. As she builds each set live using a qanun, drummachine and multi-delay effects, listeners travel with her through a space that is intimate,expansive and emotional. Yula has released two albums on the French label Akuphone — a solo album and an album with her trio Leviot. She has performed internationally across Europe and Morocco, including at Fusion Festival, Andalusian Atlantics Festival in Essaouira and Convivencia Festival in France, as well as with the Andalusian Orchestra. 3PM: Lorenzo Mena Originally from Madrid, Spain, and based in Berlin for the past seven years, Lorenzo Mena is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer and percussionist whose work moves across different territories of sound, from acoustic percussion and found objects to electronic music and ambient. For this live set, Mena explores the more atmospheric and expansive side of his work, using synthesizers and organic samples to build slowly evolving textures and vast, cosmic soundscapes. Sounds emerge, transform and dissolve, creating a continuous journey through space, perception and deep listening. A live performance shaped by improvisation, where each moment develops in real time and no two journeys are quite the same. 5PM Music Ashram Through an interdisciplinary and cross-genre approach, the Music Ashram brings together a global ensemble of eclectic artists. In collaboration with members of the ashram, they are invited to create performances and immersive spaces of sound, image and light. Whilst the stage and auditorium merge into one, the audience is never merely listener and viewer, but always takes on a participatory role. Known for their long format concerts like the 12-hour performance URTICA at Garbicz Festival 2018 they have performed in multiple stages around India and Europe. For the last edition of Sanctum of Sound this year they come to their home-base: MaHalla. 7PM Stegonaute Stegonaute is a French musician and composer whose work lies at the intersection of ambient music and cinematic storytelling. Based in the Vercors mountains, he develops a sensitive approach to sound, shaped by his environment, as well as themes of memory and fragility. Trained in film scoring at the conservatory, he conceives his pieces as “music for unseen films”, blending synthesizers, cassette players, Nintendo consoles and archival recordings. He has composed original scores for documentaries broadcast on France Télévisions between 2023 and 2025. His first album was released in 2024 on the American label Mystery Circles. On stage, he presents immersive performances that move between improvisation and composition. The project has developed internationally, with concerts in the UK, Italy, Denmark and Luxembourg, as well as a performance at La Gaîté Lyrique in Paris. He has collaborated with artists such as Priscilla Ahn (Studio Ghibli), Craig Walker (Archive), Joseph Chedid, Robot Koch and Alcest. 9PM Toxido Mask Toxido blends sonic alchemy with a sharp, intuitive touch, crafting auditory experiences that pulse with intensity and complexity. Toxido crafts immersive soundscapes that transcend the ordinary, sculpting worlds where texture, energy, and precision collide. A master of both live performance and studio creation, her work spans from the weightless and atmospheric to the intense and driving, seamlessly moving between ambient, halftime and techno. With a background in sound design, she approaches each project with meticulous attention to detail, shaping every moment into a sensory experience that lingers long after the sound fades. Her sonic universe is one of depth, intricacy, and relentless exploration - where every track is a journey and every mix an invitation to lose yourself in the unknown. As a resident at Tresor Berlin and curator of the 'OMM Transmission' podcast and event series, Toxido continues to push the boundaries of what's possible in sound.
