Mitsuko Uchida

«Mozart is incomparably more difficult to play than Schönberg!»

That’s Mitsuko Uchida’s own assessment – and this programme puts the claim to the test. One of the most revered pianists alive, she plays Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Arnold Schönberg and Franz Schubert in a single evening, tracing a line through over a century of Viennese music. It ends with Schubert’s final piano sonata, written just weeks before he died at 31 – music Uchida describes with characteristic tenderness as the work of «an unimaginable genius, living a life of such abject loneliness». Come and find out what she means.
