A Centenary Celebration of The Festival Theatre - In 1926, a wealthy young man, Terence Gray, founded a remarkable experimental theatre – The Cambridge Festival Theatre – dedicated to creating dynamic, imagistic, choreographic theatre, using new technologies of advanced lighting and a revolving stage to create theatre spectacles never seen before in Britain. But it lasted less than 10 years and the theatre was abandoned. 2026. One hundred years later, it is in the safe hands of the Cambridge Buddhist Centre, who have invited a contemporary experimental theatre group – in situ: - to create a celebratory centenary performance. in situ:’s unique new site-specific performance explores voice, choreography, and space to create a dialogue with the remarkable events of 100 years earlier. Fragments of performances, popular song, live music and vocal improvisation delivered by in situ:’s talented ensemble make for a memorable evening. An extraordinary space. A remarkable artistic heritage.
