5-Part Professional Development Series Science Communication Workshop Series Thursdays 12:00–1:30 pm PT | 3:00–4:30 ET Optional Working Session 1:30–2:00 pm PT | 4:30–5:00 ET October 15 – November 12 Note: Daylight Saving Time may effect your local start time, please double-check the event time before joining. Strengthen your science communication skills in this five-session professional development series designed for scientists, researchers, and science professionals. In this interactive workshop series you'll explore new approaches, practice creative techniques, and connect with fellow scientists who are passionate about sharing their work in engaging and impactful ways. Whether you’re looking for structured training or a chance to refresh your approach, this series offers practical guidance in the fundamentals of science communication. October 15 — SciComm Foundations Essentials of connecting with audiences, identifying and reducing jargon, and developing effective messages. October 22 — Science Storytelling The science behind storytelling and its power; story structures and themes; story elements; examples of science stories; opportunities to identify and create story elements and/or stories. October 29 — Science Presentations Best practices in connecting with audiences; creating effective visual presentations; giving talks, with opportunities to develop plans for presentations. November 5 — Multimedia & Science Visuals Introduction to the variety of multimedia used for SciComm; examples of effective multimedia science storytelling; tips and activities for four areas of multimedia as well as guidance and practice. November 12 — Working with K-12 Audiences Introduction to student and teacher motivation, customizing your science to age appropriate messaging, and generating activities that support your messaging. Participants who complete the full series will receive a Certificate of Completion and a Letter of Recognition. This event is hosted by the STEM Community of Practice for Education (SCoPE) team.
