Rafta Rafta means “slowly, slowly”, a fitting phrase for a young marriage trying to find its footing in a Singapore that is always on the move. Atul and Weilin have just gotten married, but starting their life together is anything but smooth. With their cramped BTO flat quickly filling up with well-meaning parents, colourful in-laws, and plenty of unsolicited opinions, the young couple find themselves caught between two very different families and their own hopes for the future. The Dutt and Lim families may seem worlds apart, but beneath the cultural differences lies something they have in common: a deep, sometimes overwhelming love for their children. As family expectations, personal ambitions, and everyday pressures collide, Atul and Weilin must figure out how to build a life together while keeping their families and each other from driving them apart. Funny, warm, and unmistakably Singaporean, Rafta Rafta is less about cultural differences than the messy, hilarious realities of love, family, and growing up.
