Amahl & The Night Visitors: Nairobi Preview Show

When Opera Came to the Village.

Once again, Baraka Opera Kenya presents Gian-Carlo Menotti’s Christmas opera Amahl and the Night Visitors. The opera weaves the tale of a little crippled boy living with his mother in abject poverty. They are facing starvation when a knock at the door, one clear, starry night, forever changes their lives.

This year has been an incredible year at Baraka Opera Kenya and we too feel like nothing will ever be the same again. On April 22, Her Excellency the Ambassador of Norway to Kenya, declared Baraka Opera Kenya Performing Arts Centre (BOKPAC) open. It was too early to “row row” our boats at the world football games, but Her Excellency encouraged us to use the centre to make dreams come true through music and the arts. Indeed, this year, Amahl and the Night Visitors will not only be performed in the village of Randago, but the BOK Junior Boys Choir most of them coming from the surrounding villages, will take part in the shepherd´s chorus; and as if that were not extraordinary enough, Amahl will be sung by one of the talented young boys. You will not want to miss this historic event. We welcome everyone.
