Following the release of their debut EP, A Child Swimming, Tāmaki's hardest-working government funded industry plant are embarking on a 6 date tour around Te Ika-a-Māui. Coming out through emerging local indie label T & M, the first stop on the tour is just a start, playing in an alleyway off Mercury Lane in the heart of Tāmaki. Huia (bass,vocals) Aiyana (guitar,vocals) Teina (drums/vocals) formed in 2023 and have been ripping through Tamaki Makaurau with a massive sound drawn from the heart, they create a blend of heavy angst, catchy pop like hooks and indie groove. Although continuously evolving as conversation does, GroopChat originally draws inspiration from relationships and the world around them. Their sound is influenced by britpop and flying nun bands of the 90s, one of these being Elastica. With three years of consistent gigging Groopchat has had the privilege to play some incredible shows like, 95bFM Fancy New Band Showcase, Othersway 2024, Great sounds Great at Flying Nun, Public Service with Awning, and Chris Knox’s book release with SJD and Don Mcglashan.
