Join The Dyke Agenda for a beginner-friendly photography workshop at Manchester Museum, led by Leigh (@lilvampo). This session will introduce you to the basics of photography through a lecture and you'll get the chance to go around the museum to apply your new knowledge. No previous photography experience is required. Just bring your camera or phone and come have some fun and learn something new. LocationManchester Museum, Top Floor Classroom30 September, 6:30pm to 8:30pm Itinerary10 minutes: InductionA short introduction to the workshop, the evening's activities and the museum space.20 minutes: Photography PresentationA beginner-friendly presentation covering the fundamentals of photography and some practical techniques to help you get more from your camera.60 minutes: Practical SessionWe will split into smaller groups and explore Manchester Museum, putting the techniques from the presentation into practice while experimenting with different ways of photographing the museum and its collections.30 minutes: Social and Photo SharingWe will come back together to share some of the photographs taken during the session, discuss what we have learned and meet other people interested in photography. What should you bring?Your photography medium:A phone or camera, including digital cameras and DSLRs, and also a lens cloth and spare batteries if you need.A notepad if you would like to take notes.Comfortable shoes, as we will be moving around the museum during the practical session. AccessibilityEntrance: Ramped access is available from the pavement on Oxford Road to the front door. There is also ramp access from Bridgeford Street to the café.Getting Around: Lifts in the Main Hall and near the Living Worlds gallery serve all floors.Seating: Rest areas with seating are available throughout the galleries and Main Hall. Portable folding stools can also be requested from the museum.Accessible parking is available at University of Manchester Car Park D on Booth Street West, postcode M15 6FH. Blue Badge bays are available on the ground floor, approximately a two-minute walk from the museum.If you have any accessibility requirements or questions before the event, please get in touch with us so we can help make the workshop as comfortable and accessible as possible. Food and DrinkNo food or drink is permitted in the museum galleries, apart from water, preferably in a sealed container. Food and drink can be consumed in the designated area at the museum café.If you need to eat or drink due to a medical condition, please let us know in advance so we can inform museum staff.Please do not bring watermelon to the event, even if it is sealed, due to a staff member's airborne allergy.
