Descripción

Shared Surfaces is a participatory textile workshop inviting the public to engage in slow, tactile making through stitching, collaging, and weaving. Rooted in my residency focus, which explores themes of memory, domestic textiles, and material histories, this program offers an opportunity for participants to work directly with the same materials and processes that inform my work. Participants will be guided in creating small textile compositions using a curated selection of cotton, linen, and reclaimed textile fragments. Working within simple frameworks—such as embroidery hoops or small weaving structures—each person will stitch, layer, interlace, and secure materials using basic hand-sewing and weaving techniques. The focus is not on technical precision, but on intuitive placement, touch, and the act of holding and connecting materials. Program Structure: The evening will begin with a brief introduction to my work and an overview of the materials and processes. Participants will then work independently, with guidance and support, in a relaxed, open studio environment. The program is intended to feel welcoming and informal—participants are invited to settle into the rhythm of making, with light refreshments (wine and snacks) offered to support a relaxed, social environment. Materials Provided: All materials will be provided, including: - Embroidery hoops, fabric supports, and/or simple weaving structures - Cotton and linen grounds - Vintage and reclaimed textile fragments - Thread, needles, and basic sewing tools - Weaving materials such as yarns, fibers, and strips of textile.
