Colby Symphony Orchestra - Journey to the Classical Era

Our second concert, “Journey to the Classical Era,” celebrates three works by the First Viennese School. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Symphony No. 26 in E-flat Major sparkles with youthful energy and dramatic contrasts. Franz Joseph Haydn’s Symphony No. 88 in G Major, a concert standard, displays the composer’s inventiveness as he wrote for a public audience after many years of private patronage. The program concludes with Ludwig van Beethoven’s beloved Symphony No. 6, the "Pastoral," a vivid musical portrait of the countryside featuring flowing brooks, birdsong (Beethoven even identified specific species in the score), and an unforgettable summer storm.
