If My Memory Serves Me Well is a new series of musical events curated by Imvemnyama, exploring South African music through particular languages, traditions, histories and encounters that have shaped the music we hear today. A Xhosa Songbook, presented in collaboration with Wits XCUS, turns to isiXhosa, Imvemnyama’s home language. It is not simply a celebration of music by Xhosa people, but an exploration of music in isiXhosa, and the fascinating ways in which language, place, identity and musical belonging intersect. Through live performance, arrangement and storytelling, the programme moves between traditional songs, hymns, choral music and the songs that have soundtracked everyday life
