«What you hear is not my music, but my life.»
Following a near-death experience, Mahler began composing Symphony N˚ 5, which bursts forth with a solitary trumpeter playing a funeral march. Yet Mahler’s fortunes were soon to turn. Partway through composing his fifth symphony, he met the love of his life, got married and welcomed his first child into the world. Prepare those heartstrings as the young musicians of the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester delve deep into the soul of this late Romantic master!
