Hootenanny: Erwan Keravec, Or Sobre Blau + more

Search History presents: Hootenanny

Erwan Keravec is a highland bagpiper, composer and improviser. In seeking out the more unusual sounds, and ways of playing and listening to his instrument, far from its original cultural setting, he is exploring improvised music, free and ‘noise’ jazz, and establishing a repertoire of contemporary music for solo pipes, trio with solo voice and with choir. With an interest in movement and in settings associated with reinvention, he also writes, plays and improvises for dance.

Or Sobre Blau are guitarists Andreu G. Serra and Kiran Leonard, both based in South London. Their latest album, Making Friends, builds on years of loose improvisation with fuller songs, adding drums, piano, handbells and samplers. Serra sings in Catalan and Leonard in English, sometimes translating each other’s lyrics at the same time.

Camberwell Group are a quartet of two cellos and two saxophones. They have quickly become part of London’s DIY scene, playing interwoven, deeply emotional compositions in stripped-back arrangements. Their EP Playing Music was released in April.

Lily Beltane is a Berlin-based British-German artist who writes introspective and dreamy songs for voice, guitar, strings and electronics. Her lyrics touch on perception, uneven relationships, love and rivalry. She regularly performs with multi-instrumentalist Perlah.
