BIG KHARMA lands at Village Underground Barcelona for a night dedicated to deep dubstep and 140 bass music, powered by the full force of YAY Sound System. Leading us deep into the 140 spectrum is N-Type, one of the foundational figures in UK dubstep. From Croydon’s Big Apple Records circle and the formative days of the scene to a long-running presence on Rinse FM, his career has run alongside dubstep’s evolution from South London underground movement to worldwide sound. Founder of Wheel & Deal Records, he’s known for technically sharp, dubplate-heavy sets drawing across dubstep, grime and the wider UK underground. Alongside him is Crazy D, one of the original voices of South London’s dubstep movement. Emerging through UK garage and pirate radio before becoming closely associated with the earliest dubstep sessions, his unmistakable MC style has accompanied the sound since its formative years and brings that original sound-system energy directly to the dancefloor. Breakfake brings a deep, sound-system-focused blend of roots, reggae and dub with contemporary 140 bass and percussive grooves. With releases across Firmly Rooted, Peaky Beats and N-Type’s Wheel & Deal, he has taken his sound to Outlook, Boomtown and Shambala, as well as prominent club nights including Subdub and Highrise and is a regular at Deep Medi events. Support comes from Barcelona resident bass selectors Stormy, Jon-Roy, Homology, Mimsy and Yay Crew, with Meerkat transforming the room visually as the night moves deeper into the frequencies.
