Vasant Desai: Ae Maalik Tere Bande Hum

An NCPA Library Presentation

The contrasting mantles of ‘ purist ’ and ‘ innovator ’ sits comfortably on the composer — Vasant Desai . His music was steeped in classicism and devotion but he accomplished pioneering outcomes with lush background scores, layered orchestration and usage of chorus.

A devout nationalist and a reformer at heart, he was entirely committed to the enrichment of the music of our land. Desai has been pivotal in persuading some of our greatest exponents of classical music to showcase their craft in cine-music and non-film songs.

Join Kushal Gopalka and Archisman Mozumder , having a musical interaction with his nephew Vikas Desai, acclaimed film maker and an active follower of the great composer, to unravel some fascinating aspects of Vasant Desai’s rich musical sensibilities.
