For the tenth consecutive year, If You Ask Me (IYAM) has supported emerging filmmakers with mental health and/or addiction experiences to create new work. This year’s program features eight shorts by filmmakers: Lauren Eden, Suleekha Hirsi, Rain Migwans, Trâm Anh Nguyễn, Miles Obilo, Jessica Reeves, Bre Warner.
These new films were developed in summer 2026 under the guidance of Robin Riad and IYAM alumni and mentor, Gulzar. Over three months, filmmakers deepened their knowledge of film in the company of peers and industry guests.
This program was made in partnership with the Liason for Independent Filmmakers of Toronto.

Complexities of Care. Care is often messy, and, like Love, both good and harm are done in its name. Our experiences as care givers and care recipients are intimately connected to our social location. Who can consent? Whose care is compensated? How is it valued? What type of care is offered? Is it sustainable? The various levels of care and its disparities are linked to gender, race, ability, and class amongst many other identities.
