When the master of the observational documentary Frederick Wiseman died in February 2026, American cinema lost one of its titans.
Filmed at a high-end store Neiman Marcus during the rush between Thanksgiving and Christmas in 1983, THE STORE depicts department stores as the ultimate altar of consumerism. Across departments – from designer fashion to household goods – sales training and executive meetings take place, coordinating the meticulous business of luxury retail.
