A slow burn for this one! Audiation welcomes Daniel Bell for an extended set, joined by two of Austin’s most thoughtful selectors, Brad Duke and Brett Johnson. One of the defining figures of minimal house and techno, Daniel Bell helped shape a stripped-down musical language built around repetition, reduction, and groove. After becoming involved with Richie Hawtin and John Acquaviva’s Plus 8 Records in Detroit, Bell went on to establish Accelerate Records and develop the distinctive DBX sound: skeletal rhythms, elastic basslines, subtle shifts, and carefully placed details that create tension without excess. His signature track “Losing Control” became an underground classic and remains one of the clearest expressions of that approach. Bell’s influence extends well beyond his own productions. Through 7th City Distribution and his involvement with labels including 7th City, Elevate, and Harmonie Park, he helped connect independent Detroit and Midwestern electronic music with a wider international audience. His DJing developed around the same philosophy as his records: long, hypnotic sequences where house and techno are reduced to rhythm, space, and carefully controlled change. For this edition of Audiation, Daniel will have room to stretch out with an extended set, allowing that approach to unfold naturally over time. Expect repetition, funk, restraint, and the kind of subtle progression that rewards staying with the journey. Joining him is Brad Duke, formerly known as BD Slide. A seasoned selector whose relationship with DJing goes back decades, Brad brings a confident, fluid approach shaped by years of playing, collecting records, broadcasting, and producing. His sets balance drive and nuance, moving naturally between textures while keeping the floor locked in. His background includes co-hosting and DJing on Dallas’ long-running Edgeclub radio show, residencies and club dates across Texas, and more recently performances with both Might Be Magic and Audiation in Austin. Today his sets move across a broad range, with a particular pull toward groovy deep house, minimal, and dub techno. Brett Johnson brings a sound rooted in groovy, bumping house, with techno and acid woven throughout and a warmth and soul that remain distinctly his own. A fixture in Austin’s dance music community, Brett has quietly built the kind of career that speaks for itself, with more than 100 records and remixes across labels including Classic Music Company, Freerange, Crosstown Rebels, 20/20 Vision, Get Physical, Visionquest, Cynosure, and others. Behind the decks, that range has taken him to rooms including Fabric, DC10, Panorama Bar, Rex Club, Smart Bar, and Cocoon, along with tours across Asia, Australia, and beyond. Back home, he co-runs Might Be Magic with Claudia Hernandez, continuing to contribute to Austin’s scene through their own events. Audiation continues its focus on thoughtful curation, intimate spaces, and uncompromising sound, creating space for artists and audiences to settle fully into the music. Minimum age: 21+
