Following a sold-out Manchester debut at Matt & Phred’s in April, TC.KYLIE returns for her biggest Manchester headline show to date at The Deaf Institute’s Music Hall this November. With piano, synths and her signature keytar at the centre, she turns cinematic jazz fusion into sonic storytelling — blending Japanese jazz-rock energy, acid grooves, SEGA-era textures and Studio Ghibli-inspired warmth. Formerly a journalist for Hong Kong’s public broadcaster RTHK, TC.KYLIE brings a documentarian’s instinct for narrative and emotional detail to her music. The full-band set previews her forthcoming debut album, RE, alongside music from her first EP, RE. Conceived as an imagined lifetime, the album moves from childhood wonder and rebellion through ambition, burnout, loss and acceptance before bringing the story full circle. Opening the night is Hong Kong-born singer-songwriter JOYA, who also joins TC.KYLIE as a special guest vocalist for a one-night-only Manchester collaboration. Her multilingual indie pop explores queer love, faith, healing and life between East and West. The show follows a sold-out UK and European spring tour, including Ronnie Scott’s Upstairs, A-Trane Berlin and the V&A Performance Festival, as well as a recent appearance at Jazz FM’s Nigel Williams Presents. Jazz Journal described RE as “a lovely mix of European and Asian influences… reminiscent of a Studio Ghibli soundtrack,” calling it “immersive” and “the sonic equivalent of a sunrise.”
