Welcome to the Cabaret Laboratory, where we explore and expand our understanding and presentation of performance through a cabaret lens. This fall, we have a selection of great workshops and two series offerings! Please note the dates & times of your class! Showpass will give a generic start time and date based on the overall event - not the ticket purchased.   Location: CONNECTION Dance Studios - 2600 Portland St SE, Calgary, AB T2G 4M6 --- Burlesque Foundations with Bitch Sassidy & Bea Lissima Wednesdays October 148:00-9:30PMCONNECTION Dance Studio This intensive is directed towards brand new performers, performers new to the burlesque art form, and burlesque performers with some experience looking to strengthen their foundational understanding and process. This series will focus on basic burlesque movements, local and international history, and how to build a routine. This series will be led by Bitch Sassidy and Bea Lissima.  Pin Up Bootcamp Monday November 9, 16, & 23 from 5:30-7:00PMCONNECTION Dance Studio & Idle Eyes Join Karla Marx for Pin-Up Bootcamp! This four-session series focuses on everything one would need to become a pin-up. Classes will move through hair, make-up, posing, social media basics, and an optional photoshoot with  professional photographer Volumatic on the fourth day at Idle Eyes Studios (additional cost). The shoot will take place in a 1950s diner set--classic pin up! Tassel Twirling Workshop with Ivy La Fleur Sunday October 18 at NoonCONNECTION Dance Studio Learn to shimmy and shake those tassels! Tassel twirling? Assels? What's the difference? This class is all about those little hats we use in burlesque to shake and shimmy across the stage. Led by Ivy La Fleur, this workshop will break down the history and basics of tassel twirling for all bodies. No previous experience required. Price of the workshop includes a basic pair of tassels, but you are welcome to bring your own. Open to all genders, bodies, and identities. No prior burlesque or dance experience is required. Tit N' Grit Workshop with Ivy La Fleur Sunday November 8 at NoonCONNECTION Dance Studio It's only Rock N' Roll, right? WRONG! Rock N' Roll music plays a huge part in the Neo-Burlesque revival. Ivy La Fleur is both a musician and burlesque dancer who will lead this workshop on how to pair movement (both improv and choreographed) to rock music. Focusing on musicality and maintaining stage presence, this workshop will cover the grit and rock n' roll attitude in choreography and improvisation.   Feather Fan Choreo Workshop with Bea Lissima Sunday November 8 at 2:00PMCONNECTION Dance Studio This workshop led by Bea Lissima will focus on feather fan dancing. Through sharing practical skills for care, hand positions, and movement, participants will apply these skills to choreography. Participants are encouraged to provide their own fans if possible. Please connect with Bea if you do not own your own set. Open to all genders, bodies, and identities. Slow Burn Workshop with Ivy La Fleur Sunday November 15 at NoonCONNECTION Dance Studio Learn to slow down and focus on the connection between you and the audience. This movement based workshop with Ivy La Fleur will bring you back into the moment and help you find the fire that's in your bones. Choreography Workshop with Bitch Sassidy Sunday November 15 at 2:00PMCONNECTION Dance Studio Led by Bitch Sassidy, this movement-focused series is an opportunity to learn to move like a burlesque artist! The power, the sensuality, the grace, cheek, and play. We will focus on empowerment, precision, improvisation, confidence, and a combined physical-emotional build and release. This choreography is not intended for performance, but as a vessel to explore or try out burlesque, to challenge and celebrate your beautiful self! Act Review with Karla Marx Monday November 30 from 6:00-7:30PMCab Lab Dance Studio Ready to level up your act? Everyone benefits from an outside eye! Join this class to present your burlesque act, and dig into the gooey details to take it from good to EYE POPPING as we work through moment by moment. Soak in a new perspective and considerations as instructor Karla Marx works alongside each student. Small class size, limited signups available! Open to all genders, bodies, and identities. Prior burlesque experience is required. 6 spots available. ---  Accessibility Considerations: CONNECTION Dance Studios: The studio entrance is between Move to Move and Furniture Connection. It is located on the second floor, and unfortunately there is no elevator. There are washrooms and a small kitchenette on-site. Cab Lab Studios is wheelchair accessible and is located downtown. There are gendered washrooms on-site, but folks are welcome to use whichever is available. -->Our instructors will do their best to accommodate all students and their abilities/levels. Please contact us if you would like to access classes and are unable to use stairs, or have other accessibility needs. If finances are difficult, please connect with Bea to discuss different options. -->If at anytime a student feels unwell, we require them to not attend class. A student may return to class once they feel well. This is to protect the other attendees and the instructor from falling ill themselves.
