Two Artists; One Family

You’re invited to the Chinese Canadian Historical Society of BC’s 2026 Lin Lecture co-presented by the Museum of Vancouver and UBC Centre for Asian Canadian Research and Engagement.
Moderated by Walter Quan, this year's session will feature a special father-daughter conversation between Gu Xiong of Becoming: The Art of Gu Xiong, and his daughter, the award-winning filmmaker Yu Gu (A Moth in Spring; Who is Arthur Chu?; A Woman’s Work: The NFL’s Cheerleader Problem). Gu and Yu will reflect on their shared and unique journeys from China to Canada and the US as a family and how these experiences shape their creative practices.
After the panel discussion, Gu will lead the audience in an art-making activity inspired by his “A River of Migration” installation! Participants are invited to share their own stories of migration, identity and reflect on artmaking as a way to strengthen familial and community bonds.
Event begins at 6pm. Doors open at 5:30pm. Arrive early to grab a seat and a delicious plate of dim sum!
