Japanese Calligraphy Immersion in English on November 9th, 2026

Japanese Calligraphy (Shodō): A Meditative Art Experience Japanese calligraphy, shodō, is more than a visual art form. It is a contemplative practice—one that invites complete attention to the present moment through each movement of the brush. From the first stroke to the final line, the process itself is as meaningful as the finished work. In shodō, the quiet journey of writing holds equal importance to the characters that appear on paper. This intimate calligraphy experience, conducted in English and limited to no more than eight guests, offers a gentle introduction to shodō as a mindfulness practice. Set within the serene grounds of a Zen temple, the session encourages stillness, focus, and an appreciation for subtle expression. Guided by an experienced instructor, you will be introduced to the fundamental forms of Japanese writing and the philosophy behind them. Guests may choose to write their own name or a word of personal significance, creating a work that reflects both intention and presence. Your completed calligraphy may be taken home as a meaningful keepsake.
