We love Squamish's cinder track at Don Ross Middle School as much as anyone, but let's be honest: it's not where PBs happen. So once a year we head down the highway to a real, honest-to-goodness 400m track to find out what we're actually capable of. The Twilight 5000m is back at West Vancouver's Harry Jerome Oval. That's 12.5 laps on a fast, accurately measured surface, under the lights, with a crew of motivated friends pulling you along. If your usual 5K involves 300m of vert and a quick stop to check Trailforks, this is going to feel a little strange. Turns out running is a lot faster when the ground stays where it is. You'll be placed in a heat with runners chasing similar times, so there's always someone to work with and someone to chase down. We provide bibs, timing, a closed track and, as always, good vibes. Whether you're aiming for a lifetime best or just want to see what a flat, measured 5K feels like on legs that usually run trails, this is your night. Schedule 7:00–7:45 PM: Package pick-up and warm-up7:45–8:00 PM: Final drills and strides8:00 PM: Heat 1 (20:00 and up)8:30 PM: Heat 2 (sub-20:00) Picking your heat: When you grab your ticket, choose the heat that matches your predicted 5000m time. It doesn't need to be precise. Give us your best guess, your most optimistic guess, or your "I haven't run on flat ground since 2019" guess. The point is to land you in a group of people running roughly your pace, so there's always someone to chase.
