Each of us has been given a unique voice and a lineage of songs of our own. In this workshop, Peia invites you to discover your true voice through embodied practice. We work with natural breath and resonance so you can feel how much space and power your voice truly holds. Who is Peia Peia is a singer, songwriter and keeper of traditional songs. She lives in the Appalachian Mountains and for more than ten years has travelled and learned old songs from many cultures: Irish keening songs, Scottish waulking songs, Bulgarian mountain calls. Her voice moves easily between the ancient and the present, and at the heart of her work is what these old songs awaken in us today. In April she comes to Tallinn on the release tour of her first solo album, Fathoms Deep. The workshop is a chance to meet her more closely, in a smaller circle and through song. What we will explore together You will learn about the power of the breath, expand your breathing capacity and sing from the centre of your body. We open the voice to its natural resonance, learn harmonies and dive deep into a meditative practice known as sound yoga. We will also gain a better understanding of how the voice works physically through vocal pedagogy (the science of the voice), so that you can sing with grace, freedom and strength. During our time together body-aware tools to free both the singing and speaking voice and open our natural beauty and vitality breath meditations and techniques to help you return to your natural breathing rhythm. This can support the nervous system in settling and help release tension held in the body exercises to develop resonance and a strong voice without straining it warm-ups and gentle techniques to expand your vocal range voice care a song from the Celtic tradition that brings us closer to the rituals and way of life of this ancient people Celtic roots It is said that at its height, Celtic culture reached as far as Turkey in the south and Scotland and Ireland in the north.
