Doors at 6:00pmConversation at 6:30pmFinish at 8:00pmLocation: The Polygon Gallery About Silke Schmickl Silke Schmickl is the CHANEL Senior Curator, Head of Moving Image at M+ in Hong Kong. She was previously curator at the National Gallery Singapore and the Institute of Contemporary Arts Singapore, a researcher at the German Center for Art History in Paris, and the co-founding director of Lowave, a Paris-based curatorial platform and publishing house for moving image artists. In her contribution to the major monograph Greg Girard: Photographs 1972 - 2026 (The Polygon Gallery and Magenta Foundation, 2026), she writes about her collaborations with Greg Girard for M+:  a monumental slide projection on the museum’s façade based on Girard’s photobook HK:PM, and the live cinema work, Hong Kong Made Me, scored by the punk band Gong Gong Gong. Hong Kong Made Me with Gong Gong Gong Join us for a screening of Greg Girard's film Hong Kong Made Me, live scored by experimental rock band Gong Gong Gong (工工工), the acclaimed duo of Hong Kong-native guitarist/ vocalist Tom Ng and Montreal-born bassist Joshua Frank. This special presentation brings together Girard’s photographs and iconic 1980s Hong Kong film footage with Gong Gong Gong’s raw, percussive sound, evoking the Golden Era of Hong Kong cinema. Following their live soundtrack of Hong Kong Made Me, which features songs from their debut LP Phantom Rhythm, Gong Gong Gong will perform a short set of new material to be released on their upcoming full-length album in 2027. Doors at 8:00pmShow at 9:00pmFinish at 10:00pmLocation: Pipe Shop Venue (a 2-minute walk from The Polygon Gallery) About Gong Gong Gong (工工工)Gong Gong Gong (工工工) is the duo of Hong Kong-native guitarist and vocalist Tom Ng and Montreal-born bassist Joshua Frank. Formed in 2015 in Beijing’s underground music scene, the band taps draws on inspirations ranging from Bo Diddley to Cantonese opera, West African desert blues, drone, and techno. Ng sings exclusively in Cantonese, his lyrics merging experimental storytelling and abstract poetry. Gong Gong Gong’s raw, percussive playing techniques and harmonic melodies create the “phantom rhythm” for which they are renowned. They also describe this sound as “chopping vegetables while riding a horse.”  Gong Gong Gong has been featured in Pitchfork and the New Yorker, and profiled by Bandcamp Daily and Interview Magazine. Their debut LP Phantom Rhythm 幽靈節奏 was named one of 2019’s best by Loud And Quiet and Aquarium Drunkard, as well as one of The Wire’s top 10 avant rock albums of the year.
