48. Yasuko Thanh: An Eyewitness Account in Gaza In the midst of the genocide in Gaza, ordinary Palestinian citizen Hassan Kanafani began posting about his daily experiences on Reddit. Three activists, moved by his words, collected his posts—which made their way to award-winning author Yasuko Thanh, who worked with Hassan to turn them into this book of powerful, clear-eyed witness. Pizza Before We Die is an essential first-hand account of the horrors of the genocide, and the dignity and resistance of the Palestinian people. Thanh is joined on-stage by Carol Shaben, author of The Marriott Cell: her co-written account of the story of wrongfully imprisoned Al Jazeera journalist Mohamed Fahmy. Together, they’ll discuss the ongoing suffering in Gaza; our responsibility to solidarity; and what it means to share someone else’s story when they are so horribly at risk.
