Description
The African Indigenous Food Colloquium & Culinary Experience Fest is a two-day gathering celebrating the richness, diversity and potential of Africa’s indigenous food systems. Bringing together farmers, food producers, chefs, entrepreneurs, researchers, academics, consumers, policymakers and industry stakeholders, the event creates a space where knowledge meets experience and where our food heritage becomes part of conversations about the future. African indigenous foods are more than ingredients on a plate. They carry stories of communities, generations of knowledge, traditional farming practices and ways of living that have sustained people for centuries. From indigenous grains, legumes and vegetables to traditional cooking methods and food preservation, these food systems offer valuable knowledge for a changing world. The Colloquium will explore how we can preserve indigenous knowledge while creating new opportunities for innovation, enterprise and economic participation. Through thought-provoking conversations, expert discussions, exhibitions, culinary demonstrations and practical experiences, participants will engage with issues including indigenous food production, regenerative agriculture, food security, nutrition and wellness, biodiversity, sustainability, culinary heritage and inclusive economic development. The Culinary Experience Fest brings these conversations to life through food. Visitors will have an opportunity to see, taste and experience indigenous ingredients in contemporary and traditional ways, while meeting the people growing, producing, preparing and transforming them into products and businesses. The event also creates opportunities for small-scale farmers, food producers, chefs, entrepreneurs and emerging businesses to showcase their work, build networks and connect with potential customers, partners and markets. At its heart, the event is about reconnecting with what we already have while looking ahead to what we can build. We believe Africa’s indigenous food knowledge has a valuable place in today’s food economy, not only as part of our cultural heritage, but as a source of innovation, livelihoods, healthier communities and sustainable economic opportunities. This is a space to ask important questions: How do we preserve indigenous food knowledge? How do we make indigenous foods accessible and relevant to today's consumer? How can farmers and producers participate meaningfully in growing markets? And how can we build food systems that are better for people, communities and the environment? The African Indigenous Food Colloquium & Culinary Experience Fest invites us to learn from the past, celebrate the present and shape a more sustainable food future. Come and meet in the kitchen—where our roots, our food, our people and our future come together.
