El Labernito del Coco (Satellite House Presents)

Satellite House and Secret Planet present El Laberinto del Coco, Puerto Rico’s 14-piece bomba fusion ensemble led by percussionist and composer Héctor “Coco” Barez.

Rooted in the Afro-Puerto Rican tradition of bomba, the group brings together percussion, horns, and vocals with influences from jazz, funk, and Afro-Caribbean music. Traditional rhythms meet contemporary arrangements, with the exchange between drum, voice, and dance at the center of their sound. The ensemble has performed at globalFEST at New York’s Lincoln Center, and Barez’s musical career includes collaborations with Calle 13 and Cultura Profética.

Taking place during Hispanic Heritage Month, this concert marks the first event presented by Satellite House, a new State College arts nonprofit supporting Secret Planet concerts, international artists, and free community performances.
