With Francesco Attesti - Shaun Matthew ConductorFrancesco Attesti PianoCARL MARIA VON WEBERDer Freischütz OvertureLUDWIG VAN BEETHOVENPiano Concerto No.5 in Eb major Op.73, EmperorPAUL DUKASSymphony in C majorThis programme brings together three monumental works of the German and French orchestral traditions, combining drama, virtuosity, and symphonic brilliance. We open with Carl Maria von Weber’s electrifying Der Freischütz Overture, one of the defining works of early German Romanticism. Drawing upon themes from the opera itself, the overture moves from shadowy mystery and supernatural tension to triumphant brilliance, capturing the atmosphere of folklore, drama, and the hunt. Weber’s vivid orchestration and theatrical imagination paved the way for later Romantic composers, including Richard Wagner. We are delighted to welcome internationally renowned pianist Francesco Attesti for Ludwig van Beethoven’s majestic Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat major, Op. 73, the celebrated 'Emperor' Concerto. Grand in scale yet deeply lyrical, the concerto represents Beethoven at the height of his creative powers, combining heroic brilliance, serenity, and exuberance in one of the supreme masterpieces of the piano repertoire. The concert concludes with Paul Dukas’s Symphony in C major, a towering achievement of French symphonic writing. Best known for The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, Dukas reveals remarkable structural mastery, rhythmic vitality, and sumptuous orchestral colour in a work of sweeping energy and brilliance.Join us for an evening of heroic grandeur, Romantic drama, and orchestral splendour.Shaun Matthew In partnership with Big Ideas By The Sea
