A Very Mahogany Wedding

South Asian weddings are often marked by their grandiose and colourful spectacles! Yet, beneath this grandeur often lies a more tumultuous emotional landscape. A Very Mahogany Wedding is a staged dramatic reading that examines the tension between spectacle and emotional reality. Blending poetry and prose with movement, this devised performance follows a bride, bridesmaid, and solemniser on the Big Day. Together, they offer raw and intimate perspectives on the complexities of romantic love, asking what it really takes to manifest a lifelong union. This production is commissioned by Esplanade, and inspired by Mahogany Journal’s 1st physical zine, Manifest, that was self-published in January this year (with the help of the Jalan Besar Fellowship under Sing Lit Station).
