Garden Apartment by Rudi Szilvásy Catacombs Gallery Sunday, December 13th, 2026 Taking notes from the context and materials of the exposed brick and subterranean nature of the gallery, Garden Apartment decorates the room in a way that compliments what is present, to make the most of what is usually the less desirable. So named for the affectionate term name for a basement unit, this is a room that is decorated without taking its architecture out of mind. The materials are in dialogue, though sometimes they stand to contrast one another. A basement dwelling isn’t often the most desirable, but it has the ability to be a sanctuary — intimate, and free from the distractions of the busy world above. Here, the artwork has become like furniture, or roommates. A painting that feels like the centerpiece above the mantle. Tile and ceramic work brings to mind a bathroom. But they hang on the wall, freeing up our real estate. Out of our way, they don’t impose themselves but are nevertheless a treat for those who stop for more than a glance. For the length of the exhibition this is their home. Guest curated by Rudi Szilvasy, featuring work by Avery Booth, Jeremy Carter, Davee Easterly, Edwin Hartlove, Lesley Jackson, Haylie Jimenez, Lee Mike Romero, Danny Rosa, and Jessica Zawadowicz. Rudolf Szilvásy (b. 2000, San Francisco) is a multi-disciplinary artist. He has exhibited work in Portland, OR, Co. Clare, Ireland, and Chicago, IL. He holds a BFA from the Pacific Northwest College of Art.
