The band was born from the collaboration of vocalist and songwriter Joshua Paynter (Milwaukee, WI), drummer Joshua Day (Cardiff, Wales), and bassist Nicholas Laguna (Tucson, AZ). Drawing from a diverse range of influenses - spanning the raw intensity of Drug Church and Fugazi to the art-rock edge of Queens of the Stone Age and the melodic pull of Blink-182 --Life Hoax blends these sensibilities into a sound that carves out its own distinct niche. Since August 2025, LIfe Hoax has been releasing singles that explore interpersonal themes and a subtle mystique rooted in the Sonoran Desert. The mid-tempo "Quiet Lines" shifts between post-hardcore and post-punk, confronting unspoken truths, shared burdens, and unacknowledged blame. "Bloodsuckers" is a scathing indictment of the American healthcare industry, propelled by raucous guitars, thunderous drums, and surfy basslines. "Fixed Draw" channels the band's namesake with an anthemic power-chord chorus featuring chants of "life is a hoax," while its verses depict a reality in which truth and illusion can no longer be reconciled. Though still in its infancy, Life Hoax has already begun making strides on stage. Their performances are marked by a visceral intensity that resonates deeply with audiences.
